Hike
Feb 26, 2005
A couple of our Scouts and Scouters planned to hike in the Chino Hills state park but due to recent rains, a quick change of plans was made and they hiked the 7th street circle in the Whittier hills instead. They found some washed out trails, mudslides and downed trees as some obstacles, but thought the hike was great in spite of it all.
Hike
July 11,2005
Four scouts and three scouters took an evening hike on the 7th street loop. The five mile hike was a nice outing for our scouts
Summercamp 2005
July 30, 2005
Boy Scout Troop 688 spent a week of summer camp at Camp Whitsett.  The 19 scouts and 11 scouters had a lot of fun with a full program.  Some of these items included hiking to Sentinel Peak, swimming, fishing and kayaking.  In addition, we had numerous outings such as white water rafting, horseback riding and numerous water sports in a natural lake.  We had a visitor (bear) one night that took down our bear bag, and scampered away before we could find the culprit (apparently bears like fried chicken). The scouts earned numerous merit badges and overall had a great time at this premier camp.
Crew Longterm 2005
August 14, 2005
Venture Crew 688 sent 5 crew members and 3 advisors on a one week longterm adventure this year. They would like to thank the Enriquez family for allowing them the use of their property in Utah.

Here is one scout's version of the trip:

Crew 688 took a longterm trip to the Enriquez's 8.2 acre property south of Marysvale, Utah. The crew took residence in the former barn on the property and showed their appreciation by volunteering to do a service project of building a driveway on the property (lining the semicircle driveway with rocks found throughout the property). On Wednesday, we took a trip to the northern rim of the Grand Canyon where we spent the night and stopped at Bryce Canyon on the way. We returned to Utah the following day and helped Mr Enriquez paint the barn. We left Utah at dawn on Saturday and went sightseeing in Las Vegas on the way home. We arrived in Whittier that evening, already planning for next year's outing.
Camporee
October 15, 2005
Two Scouts and three Scouters made a day trip to Rio Hondo's Fall Camporee which had a theme of Native Americans at Play. The Scouts participated in the events which included a rock climbing wall while the Scouters manned the Corn Cob Dart event. Although we wish more Scouts had attended, we still had a lot of fun.
Eagle Project
October 29, 2005
Congratulations to Nick G. who completed his Eagle project at the Dolores Mission Church in Los Angeles. Nick's project was to landscape the parking lot across the street from the church with drought resistant plants. Check the Photo page for a couple of pictures from the event.
Scouting For Food
November 19, 2005
Troop, Pack, and Crew 688 participated in BSA's annual Good Turn project Scouting For Food. After the traditional chorizo and egg burritos, donuts and hot chocolate, 25 Scouts, Cubs and Venturers were joined by over 20 adults and collected over 1,500 food items for our local assistance organization, Neighbors Helping Neighbors. A special thanks to Tommy and Jeannie for providing the breakfast and to the Pack for providing the donuts.
