Hike
February 2, 2008
Four Scouts and three Scouters were joined by a WEBELOS Scout and his dad from Pack 688  on a hike to Studevant Falls and Spruce Grove. It was a beautiful crisp morning, perfect for hiking. The highlight of the ten mile hike was the waterfall which had the largest flow I've ever seen there. The group enjoyed the more than 20 stream crossings on the hike and the beautiful views.
Cycling
February 16, 2008
Five Scouts and three Scouters met at Wilderness Park in Downey and biked south along the San Gabriel River. We weren't sure how far we would go but before long we were in Seal Beach. Once there the boys elected to go to Jack in the Box for some nourishment before heading back home. Everyone finished the 30 mile trip, though there were a few sore legs. It was a beautiful day and a great experience. Special thanks to Ed Montano, his experience really helped out.

Troop 688 went backpacking to Little Jimmy this weekend. In attandance were: Matthew J, Elijah J, Nick G, and Joseph L. Adults in attendance were Ruben S, Damian G, Rene M, and Erick A.

The weekend started with a slow, hot, 2 mile hike to camp. The campers set up camp, had lunch and took a nap. We had an early dinner of Cup of Noodles and dehydrated meals. We then took a 1 mile hike up to the peak of Mount Islip, returned and had dessert, cleaned up and bedded down for the night. The Scouts slept under the stars while the adults slept in tents. Sunday morning started with oatmeal for breakfast as well as dehydrated bacon and eggs, clean up and a quick 1 hour hike back to the cars.

We all had a great time! Click on the picture below for a view from the peak of Mt Islip.
