Martin Luther King Jr. Parade
January 18, 2010
Sub-hurricane conditions describe the last mile we walked as we celebrated the MLK holiday in Los Angeles. Six Scouts from Troop 688 joined others from Troop 546 and a couple of other Scouts as we walked in the pouring rain and wind. The crowd was great and many called out the 12 points of the Scout Law that were on signs our unit carried. Thanks go out to Bob Miller and the American Legion post in Hollywood who sponsored the unit in the parade.
Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park
March 7,2010
Troop 688 camped at Caspers Wilderness park from March 5 to March 7. Five scouts and three adults attended an eventful weekend filled with adventure. Arriving on Friday evening, we quickly setup camp and ate a dinner of hot dogs and chili. After breakfast the troop went on a six mile hike which included a light and steady rain toward the end. Saturday afternoon the scouts retired two American flags, and after dinner hiked to a planned campfire which was cancelled due to a rain storm. Instead we took a tour of the nature center. Sunday we ate breakfast, broke camp and headed home. Very nice location and a good experience for all in attendance.
